Thursday just turned gloomy for Invezz – a London-based financial media outlet on the distressing news that Queen Elizabeth II has died.
Princes Charles becomes the King of the United Kingdom
The world’s longest-serving monarch passed away peacefully at the age of 96 at her Balmoral Castle in Scotland. Her family had rushed to be with her after she was put under medical supervision earlier today.
Prince Charles – her eldest son aged 73 is now the King of the United Kingdom. Him and the Royal Consort Camilla Parker will return to London on Friday.
Per the “Operation London Bridge”, the U.K. will mourn the demise of Her Majesty for ten days. A funeral will be held in central London on the last day of mourning.
Her Majesty appointed the new Prime Minister earlier this week
Just two days ago, Queen Elizabeth II had sworn in Liz Truss as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
She was, however, suffering from “episodic mobility problems” since late 2021 that forced her into minimising public appearances.
Elizabeth was crowned the Queen on June 2nd, 1953; shortly after the departure of George VI (her father) on Feb 6th, 1952. Earlier this year, the United Kingdom celebrated a Platinum Jubilee as she completed her 70 years in reign.
Flags at government buildings and her palaces across London were lowered to half-mast on Thursday.
