BWS IoT & SIMCom Launch Hybrid LTE+LoRa Modem for Tracking

Innovation meets global market demand for advanced IoT technology solutions, combining efficiency and security in a single device

BWS IoT1 and SIMCom Wireless2 announce the consolidation of their global strategic partnership with the start of production of the market’s first custom-built and exclusive hybrid IoT modem, integrating CAT1 bis and LoRa technologies in a single device.

This international cooperation began in 2024, following a visit by BWS IoT to SIMCom’s headquarters in China. The move resulted in a two-year exclusivity agreement and established the joint development of future components in LTE and LPWA technologies, targeting applications in the competitive global tracking and Internet of Things market.

“This project symbolizes the realization of a vision. Instead of simply adopting off-the-shelf components, we co-created with SIMCom a truly innovative modem and chipset capable of meeting the specific needs of our customers. We are now entering a new phase, with production underway and a global expansion strategy,” says Oswaldo Conti-Bosso, President of BWS IoT.

Solution designed for the tracking market

The new modem builds on the expertise BWS IoT has accumulated over more than a decade in the Brazilian, Latin American, and European tracker markets. The device was designed to enhance security in vehicle tracking, logistics, insurance, asset management, and recovery.

Among its distinguishing features:

  • Integration of CAT1 bis and LoRa in a single chipset, reducing the physical size of the tracker and enabling better camouflage;
  • Resilience to cellular signal jammers: In the event of theft, the device’s native LoRa communication continues to operate, allowing the compromised device to exchange information with other trackers within range (up to 1.5 km in urban areas);
  • Compatibility with the LoRaWAN network, such as NETMORE’s infrastructure via Kore connectivity, strengthens the application’s scalability;
  • Availability of the BWS IoT SDK allows other manufacturers to integrate their devices with the BWS P2P LoRa network. This openness enables the creation of a collaborative network between partner companies, fostering joint initiatives in preventive actions and, above all, in emergencies such as theft. The central purpose is to join forces to achieve the goal of ensuring the recovery of assets using LPWA tracking technologies – Nb2, 4G, LoRa P2P, and LoRaWAN.

BWS 4G+LoRa tracking device“The partnership was based on complementarities. BWS IoT has in-depth knowledge of the tracking market’s demands, while SIMCom is a global leader in cellular modules. Together, we offer the market a new generation of 4G LTE and LPWA technologies, with a direct impact on security, logistics, and connectivity,” comments Victor Garcia, Regional Sales Director at SIMCom South America.

Next Steps

The modem is already in the certification phase with Anatel, with approval scheduled for Q4 2025. Major carriers and partners, such as TIM, are conducting large-scale field tests in strategic tracking and telemetry applications.
