New Synaptics Wi-Fi 7 Processors Bring Advanced Connectivity to IoT Devices

New Synaptics Wi-Fi 7 Processors Bring Advanced Connectivity to IoT Devices

The Veros™ Wi-Fi® 7 family boasts ultra-low latency and high peak speeds, enabling high resolution and fast data processing for entertainment, security, and gaming applications. Synaptics designed it with seamless deployment, reliability and energy-efficiency in mind to support the growing Internet of Things (IoT).

Synaptics Is First to Market With Wi-Fi 7 SoCs for IoT

Synaptics is a leading technology supplier specializing in designing and developing custom wireless communication and connectivity solutions. It created the Veros Wi-Fi 7 family — the first system-on-a-chip (SoC) solution for the IoT. It even has built-in artificial intelligence functionality, effectively future-proofing it.

These next-generation processors are ultra-fast, low-latency and hyper-efficient. Since they are fully backward compatible with Wi-Fi 6, they can connect internet-enabled devices using older Wi-Fi standards. However, they are measurably better in every way — for one, higher bandwidth efficiency is possible through 4096-QAM modulation.

They have twice the channel width, with 320 megahertz channels that deliver up to 5.8 Gigabits per second. Their 16 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) streams have double the capacity of Wi-Fi 6. These improvements let devices initiate larger data transfers with superior reliability and minimal delays for lightning-fast connectivity.

Introducing Synaptics’ SYN4390 and SYN4384 Chips

The Veros Wi-Fi 7 family comprises the SYN4390 and SYN4384 chips, both of which are Thread and Zigbee-ready with IEEE 802.15.4 — a technical standard defining low-power, low-data-rate communications — and support Matter. These wireless protocols are designed for IoT devices, helping simplify the deployment and utilization of smart device ecosystems.

The chips support simultaneous operation in 2.4 Gigahertz (GHz), 5 GHz, and 6 GHz with a 2×2 MIMO or multilink operation system, meaning IoT devices can seamlessly switch between bands as necessary. 6 GHz is a new spectrum more than double the size of others primarily used for Wi-Fi 7 solutions.

SYN4390 is optimized for 160 MHz channels, 4k QAM and Bluetooth 6.0, making it ideal for consumer technologies like computers and IoT hubs. It offloads memory-intensive workloads to its Dual Arm® cores so low-power modes are possible and balances high-speed connectivity with system-level efficiency.

Synaptics designed SYN4384 for space and power-sensitive devices by packing powerful, advanced features into a compact frame. Its ultra-low power modes and integrated power management unit extend its lifespan. An 80 MHz bandwidth and 1024-QAM make it ideal for small, always-on devices like smart speakers and dongles.

How These Wi-Fi 7 Chips Advance IoT Connectivity

These processors were purpose-built for the IoT. Multilink operation connects across 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands to reduce congestion, prevent interference and improve IoT device performance. Their enhanced reliability and superior throughput support seamless streaming, gaming, and internet use, even with resource-intensive use cases like 8K video or virtual reality.

Their ultra-fast, AI-native processing is undoubtedly an impressive feature. They are infused with the power of Astra™ Machina — the premier IoT system for edge AI, compute and connectivity. Processing takes place on-device instead of at a faraway server, increasing speed and preventing hackers from intercepting data in transit.

In short, they safeguard data, increase transmission speed and improve connection reliability. Whether users are deploying devices in a smart home or modernizing an office space, they can rely on SYN4390 and SYN4384 for superior connection. Unlike existing chipsets, they are flexible, robust and compact — vital features for the next generation of IoT technology.

The Wi-Fi 7 Chipset Market Will Drive Further Innovation

The wireless connectivity technology field is moving swiftly, with numerous companies competing for innovative inventions. The Wi-Fi Alliance officially launched Wi-Fi 7 in January 2024, yet approximately 233 million devices are already on the market. It expects the number to grow to 2.1 billion by 2028, highlighting its impressive market potential.

Out of all major Wi-Fi chipset providers, Synaptics is pushing the boundaries of wireless technology with the release of Veros. It has led the industry in the past, so it is uniquely positioned to drive innovation further, redefining the next generation of wireless solutions.

Experts forecast the global Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 chipset market will reach an estimated $89.34 billion in 2030, achieving a 13.6% compound annual growth rate. They expect the Wi-Fi 7 segment will experience the fastest growth, driven by strong demand for quicker and more reliable wireless connectivity in demanding environments.

Resource-intensive applications like 8K video and generative AI require powerful hardware. As these technologies advance, so must wireless communication and connectivity systems. This is why Synaptics’ products will be so valuable.

Where Will Synaptics Take the Wi-Fi 7 Market Next?

As the IoT maintains its upward trajectory, numerous companies compete to be the first to market with innovative connectivity solutions. Synaptics has actually accomplished that with the Veros Wi-Fi 7 family, positioning it as a leader in the sector and in forward-thinking.

While its next invention may not come out for some time, the SYN4390 and SYN4384 processors will last consumers for years, if not decades. Besides, it will surely take the sector in an interesting direction, so the eventual reveal will be worth the wait.
