ETC Group Global Metaverse UCITS ETF (METR), Europe’s first metaverse-themed exchange-traded fund (ETF), has been listed on the London Stock Exchange.
Announced on Thursday 17 March, the listing on UK’s benchmark index and subsequent passporting sees yet another major product from ETC Group and HANetf make its debut in Europe.
ETF offers exposure to ‘Metaverse’ companies
The ETF tracks the Solactive ETC Group Global Metaverse Index, with investors getting exposure to companies with a footprint in the Metaverse industry. These include makers of VR/AR, 3D graphics, semiconductors, and wireless communications products.
Others are video streaming companies, online gaming platforms and blockchain technologies. The latter loops in NFTs, digital land, as well as related cloud and data storage providers.
METR is ETC Group and HANetf’s second thematic UCITS ETF, coming after last month’s launch of the ETC Group Digital Assets & Blockchain Equity UCITS ETF (KOIN).
The ETF’s launch comes as investments around the metaverse hit a new level of interest. The idea of virtual reality is massively gaining traction, with Web3 and NFTs tipped to be even bigger. With billions put into the sector, Goldman Sachs estimates the metaverse industry to command a global market size of over $12 billion.
METR closed at $8.69 on Friday 18 March, up 3.5% on the day after adding $0.29 to its value. In terms of volume, 9,860 shares had been traded while turnover (on the book) was $83,463.49.
